“It’s not needed. It’s not necessary. So let’s put our health before profits”
The LA Unified School District has joined the movement to urge the closure of the Aliso Canyon natural gas storage facility in Porter Ranch. After spewing nearly 100,000 metric tons of methane into the air over many months, displacing approximately 8,400 families and 2 elementary schools, the school district board unanimously voted to motivate the Division of Oil, Gas and Geothermal Resources, the Public Utilities Commission and the Governor, Jerry Brown, to decommission the Aliso Canyon facility. The LAUSD wants to ensure the safety of their students and staff in the schools neighboring this natural gas storage facility from any more harm that it may cause.
